Today I want to talk about duplicates.
What duplicate items do you have in your home right now?
A quick and easy way to start minimizing the things in your home, is to get rid of anything you have duplicates or multiples of because they are just taking up unnecessary space.
The Kitchen
Take a quick inventory of items like wooden spoons, vegetable peelers, flippers and cutting boards to see if you have more than you actually need. In our home, we had six spatulas and we only really used two. Those extra spatulas were just making our drawer more cluttered. So take a look around your kitchen, what things do you have a few too many of? If you’re worried about getting rid of some duplicates, remove them for a month and see if you missed it. If not, then you’ll probably feel better about letting it go.
Shower Towels
A good rule of thumb to follow when deciding how many shower towels you should keep is to have two per person. One that you are currently using and the other that’s in the laundry. We were able to pare down our shower towels down from 12 to 8.
The Junk Drawer
In our kitchen, we have what I call a junk drawer but it’s more like an office in a drawer since it holds our pens, pencils, highlighters and our stapler. Now I have always thought our junk drawer looked nice and organized since like items were stored together and had their own specific spot. However, looking back with a new set of eyes and thinking about what is actually necessary to have made me think twice. We had 45 pens in that drawer, 15 highlighters and 12 pencils. A ridiculous amount that we definitely did not need. After I got rid of a good chunk of them, our junk drawer serves more of a purpose without overflowing like before.
Forgotten Items
I found our old hand blender in the fruit cellar a while ago. We had been given a new one two years ago for Christmas but decided to store the old one in the box of the new hand blender. Our logic behind this strategic move was that we wanted to hold onto our old hand blender in case we didn’t like the new one as much. Ironically, the old one had a melted cord so it really wasn’t safe to be using in the first place. I have since given that one the pitch as we have thoroughly enjoyed using the newer one.
I’d like to know, what duplicates do you have in you home that you are ready to get ride of?
I would also love to know if you happen to find any forgotten items like our old hand blender?
Please leave a comment below. I would love to read it. Have a great week!

I’m guessing unopened boxes from when I moved in 7 years ago would count as duplicates or at least unnecessary!
It might be a good time to crack open those boxes and see what’s inside. I’m going to guess that you probably haven’t missed what’s inside since you haven’t needed the contents in the last 7 years. Happy un-boxing Luke! 🙂
