Stepping Outside of your Comfort Zone

Are you an Introvert?

I’m an introvert at heart. I’m also a home body which is why I love hanging out at home and relaxing on the couch in my comfy clothes instead of going out. Perhaps it’s another reason I currently live right down the street from my parents while my sister’s family and my in-laws live only a few blocks away. Being comfortable is like a warm cozy blanket wrapped around you. There’s a lot to be said about being comfortable. Feeling safe and secure is important. There’s also a lot to be said about pushing yourself to new limits so you can grow as a person. Stepping outside of our comfort zone can seem like a difficult feat when it’s so easy to put ourselves in a box and stay there out of fear. If you’re also an introvert, can you relate to this?

Take a Step

This past week I spoke in our church service about Simplicity. As you know this is a topic that’s near and dear to my heart.  I usually get nervous when I speak in front of others, especially other adults. What I noticed was that when you speak about something you’re interested in and enjoy sharing with others, it doesn’t have to be all that scary. When you speak about something you’re passionate about, the words come easily as it’s something that’s on your mind constantly and spoken from the heart. In the past, when speaking in public, I would often worry about whether people would notice if my voice sounded shaky or if I sounded out of breath. I’m learning it’s more important to do something out of the ordinary and challenge your belief of what you think you’re capable of.

I have often heard the phrase do something everyday that scares you thrown around like there’s nothing to it. I have not necessarily put this into regular practice but I want to do a better job of putting myself out there in situations where I will grow as a person, increase my self-confidence and strive to become a better version of myself every single day.

I want to challenge you to step out of your comfort zone this week. Test out the waters and see how it feels.

Have a great week!
Jillian
